Salem Man Arrested After Stealing Vehicle

(PEKIN) - A Salem man was arrested after he allegedly stole a vehicle Tuesday from Casey’s General Store in Pekin.

Washington County Sheriff Deputy Nathan Maudlin was responding to the store at 9:42 a.m. about the stolen vehicle when the department received a call from MJ Auto Sales regarding a customer there causing a disturbance.

When the deputy arrived at the dealership he found the stolen vehicle.

The officer was told that the customer causing the disturbance had demanded to test drive a maroon Camaro and had left the area traveling west on State Road 60.

Chief Deputy Brent Miller and Deputy Ryan Larrimore were responding the to the Pekin area when they noticed the Camero near Motsinger Road. The deputies made a felony traffic stop after a short pursuit, which ended on Old State Road 60.

The driver, 37-year-old Michael S. Kemper, of Salem, was arrested on felony charges of auto theft and resisting arrest by fleeing in a vehicle.

Pekin Town Marshal Jeff Thomas assisted with the investigation.
