(SPRINGVILLE) - A Springville man was killed after his pickup went into a pond on Cobb Lane just after 11 p.m. Friday night.
According to a Lawrence County Sheriff's Department report, when police arrived they found a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup partially submerged in a pond with the driver's door open. The pickup did have a livestock trailer attached to it.
Police believe 68-year-old Alan Armstrong, of 971 Cobb Lane, had accidentally left the pickup in gear and it began to roll forward and he attempted to stop the vehicle and in the process got pinned underneath of the truck.
Armstrong who suffered a head injury was dead at the scene.
Police believe the front portion of the truck may have been damaged because it was submerged in the pond.
Weaver's Wrecker Service was able to pull the truck trailer combination out of the pond.
The death of Mr. Armstrong remains under investigation.
