(BLOOMINGTON) - A series of Indiana University Student Foundation cycling events will take over Bloomington’s streets and fields this weekend as riders compete in time trials, drag races and an obstacle course relay.
The Herald-Times reports, the Indiana University Student Foundation's Little 500 Fall Cycling Series runs tonight through Sunday. Three scheduled events will take place.
Individual time trials, downtown street sprints, and a relay obstacle course race will give the top three men's teams and the top three women's teams to pick when to run the qualifying race in March before the official Little 500 event in April.
Tonight at 6 p.m., cyclists will compete in individual time trials at the Bill Armstrong Stadium at 1606 N. Fee Lane. Riders will participate in four-lap heats.
Saturday's event will shut down Bloomington's main strip from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. East Kirkwood Avenue will be closed between Lincoln Street and Indiana Avenue to allow for a 200-meter bicycle drag race.
Heats of six riders will compete to make it to the final 16 men and 16 women. Those in the championship round will be slotted into a bracket based on their times. Racers will advance through the bracket to the finals.
The event takes place at noon, and the last heat is expected to run around 5 p.m.
The final event is a bicycle relay race through obstacles.
Cyclocross will take place in the IU tailgating fields between North Fess and North Woodlawn avenues. Two-person teams will race 15 laps on a pre-set course, alternating riders each lap as they navigate straw bales, stairs, sand, and other hazards.
The men's race takes place at 3:30 p.m., while the women's race runs for 10 laps starting at 2 p.m.
Spectators may attend all three events for free.
