(BLOOMINGTON) - A T.J. Maxx employee was arrested after police say she stole more than $6,616.47 worth of merchandise from the Bloomington store.
According to police 21-year-old Adear Azzam was arrested around 1 p.m. Wednesday at the store at 160 North Gates Drive on a felony charge of theft.
According to Capt. Steve Kellams, Azzam was arrested after an internal investigator discovered the thefts.
According to those investigators, Azzam invited her friends into the T.J. Maxx store multiple times throughout the month of July and helped them steal merchandise by removing security tags and acting as if they paid for the items. She would then have her friends return the stolen items in exchange for gift cards.
