(BLOOMINGTON) - A woman was struck by a car and killed Saturday evening outside IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
According to Bloomington Police, 63-year-old Sandra Hough, a nurse at the hospital, was hit by a 2010 Chevy Equinox in an alley off West First Street, across from the hospital's emergency department.
Police say Hough had just finished a 12-hour shift, stayed late to complete paperwork and was headed to her car when the accident happened.
The 22-year-old female driver told police she heard a noise as she was backing up, got out to check and found Hough lying on the ground. She yelled for help and a passer-by ran to the emergency room for assistance.
Hough suffered broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, a broken sternum and a large gash on the side of her head, according to police. She died in the ER before she could be airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.
Police say the driver had come to the hospital to give her boyfriend, another hospital employee, his phone charger.
Police say the driver is not currently facing any criminal charges and did pass a sobriety test and submitted to a blood test.
