(BROWNSTOWN) - Brownstown Police Department has a new officer - 27-year-old Jessiah Watts.
Watts, a North Vernon native, was working as a reserve officer with the North Vernon Police Department and Mike Sells Potato Chip Company earlier this year when he learned about an opening at the Department.
After completing his 40-hour pre-basic training he was sworn in on November 19th. His 90 year-old great-grandfather, who adopted Watts, held the Bible used during the ceremony. Also attending was Nick Megel, Jessiah's brother-in-law, who is a North Vernon Police Department officer and his wife Shannon, children, Koltin and Karmandy, and his sister.
His hiring puts the department at six full-time officers and one part-timer.
