Orleans Spellers Take Third Place In State Finals

(ORLEANS) - The Orleans High School Spell Bowl team brought home third place honors from the State Finals of the 2018 Indiana Spell Bowl at Purdue University on Saturday.

Senior speller Nicholas Hester earned special recognition for spelling all nine of his words correctly and senior Annie Johnson was recognized for a near-perfect round.

This year marked the third straight trip to the State Finals for the spellers and the fourth in school history.

Other schools competing in Class 4 were State Champion Riverton Parke; second place, Barr-Reeve; and state finalists Northeast Dubois and Washington Township.

Class 4 includes schools with fewer than 355 students enrolled in grades 9-12.

The Orleans Community Schools Academic Teams are funded in part by a grant from the Orange County Community Foundation.
