(BEDFORD) - A man walking along Mitchell Road Monday afternoon was injured in a two-vehicle accident.
According to a Bedford Police report, 22-year-old Issac Crane of Bedford was traveling north on Mitchell Road in a Ford F-150 and was slowing to make a left turn into Pappa's Restaurant parking lot when a Rumpke Transportation garbage truck that was traveling behind him rear-ended his pickup.
58-year-old Ronald Cox of Brownstown told police he was behind Crane's pickup when he noticed the pickup stop. He told police he locked his brakes and swerved to the right to try to avoid the collision.
The garbage truck clipped Crane's pickup and then went toward the ditch where it struck 37-year-old Allen Buschard, who was walking along the roadway.
Cox told police he didn't see Buschard until it was too late. The garbage truck then came to a stop against the guardrail.
Buschard was taken to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital and then flown by a medical helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.
20-year-old livia Mackey, who was a passenger in the Crane vehicle, complained of pain but was not transported for medical treatment.
Crane, who is a firefighter/paramedic, assisted at the scene until emergency crews arrived.
