(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing West Third Street Thursday night.
According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, 69-year-old Steven Burris was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where he died from his injuries.
An autopsy was performed Friday morning and Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields ruled the death accidental.
According to police, a 52-year-old woman, of Bloomington was traveling west in the 3800 block of West Third Street just after 6 p.m. The woman told police she struck something and stopped and discovered it was a man.
Witnesses told police it was ver y dark, wet and difficult to see Burris who was wearing dark clothing.
The female driver showed no signs of impairment but did undergo a blood draw which is standard protocol in a fatal accident.
Capt. Kellams says West Third Street, between Curry Pike and Liberty Drive, was closed for more than two hours while officers investigated the crash.
