(BLOOMINGTON) - Billie Jo Marvin Wiley died Monday evening from injuries he suffered after falling while hanging Christmas lights at Pi Beta Phi’s Indiana Beta chapter house at 928 East Third Street. Wiley was 85-years-old.
According to Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields, Wiley was on a 20-foot ladder when he lost his footing at about 12:45 p.m. Monday. He fell, landing on the pavement.
IU Police Department officers arrived at sorority house around 12:50 p.m. Monday to find Wiley on the front patio receiving CPR from a Bloomington firefighter, IUPD Capt. Craig Munroe said.
Wiley was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where he died of blunt-force trauma to the head, neck, and chest at 9:19 p.m.
Wiley is not an employee of the University but was hired by Pi Beta Phi to decorate the building, Munroe said. Witnesses told officers Wiley had fallen from around 12 to 20 feet.
Wiley and his wife of more than 60 years were the co-owners of Baskin Robbins.
