(GREENE CO.) - Several underprivileged children at Shakamak Elementary School in Greene County received toys, clothing and food thanks to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Reclamation.
A Christmas raffle and silent auction raised more than $1,400 for the school's Brown Bag program. The program provides food to children to take home with them at the end of the school week who are living with food insecurity.
There are currently 41 students in the program.
Also collected were several bags of clothes, shoes, and jackets and donated to the school.
Since 2000, the division has donated more than $22,000 to Greene County families as a result of its annual Christmas raffle.
The DNR Division of Reclamation administers the surface coal mining laws for the State of Indiana. Its field office is in Jasonville, in Greene County.
