(BLOOMINGTON) - A 16-year-old girl was arrested after she took a gun to school Wednesday.
The Bloomington High School North student's told police she found the Smith & Wesson .22-caliber handgun along May Road and put it inside her backpack and forgot it was in there.
According to Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams the girl never showed the gun to anyone at the school.
Police found the girl at her home and the gun still in her backpack. The gun was not loaded and didn't have a magazine.
Police confiscated the weapon and arrested her on a charge of possession of a firearm on school property. She was transported to a juvenile detention center.
