(PLAINVILLE) - One man is dead and another was hospitalized following a hunting-related accident in Daviess County Thursday.
According to Daviess County deputies, 40-year-old Mervin Dale Knepp of Montgomery and 18-year-old Joseph Wagler of Plainville were hunting coyotes about three miles east of Plainville when their dogs ran a coyote into an oil well pump housing.
The two men entered the well housing to retrieve the dogs when the oil well turned on and they were caught in the machinery.
Knepp was pronounced dead at Daviess Community Hospital.
Wagler suffered a leg injury and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes for treatment.
