(INDIANAPOLIS) - Just one Indiana team has advanced to the sweet sixteen of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
The Butler Bulldogs will take on number-one seeded Florida after the Gators knocked off Purdue Sunday by a score of 74-to-67. The Boilermakers led the defending national champs by a basket at the half, but were overcome late.
Butler squeaked out a three-point victory over Maryland Saturday for the right to play in Saint Louis on Friday.
The Indiana Hoosiers were looking to earn a trip to the Sweet Sixteen as they faced the UCLA Bruins Saturday evening in Sacramento. However, offensive woes kept that dream from becoming a reality. The Hoosiers shot just 33% from the floor, and scored only 13 points in the first half.
Kelvin Sampson's team was able to battle back in the second half, and even tied the game up at 49 with under two minutes to go. But the Bruins made the key defensive stops, and hit the free throws down the stretch to earn the 54-49 victory.
