(UNDATED) - IU and Butler continue to prepare for NCAA tournament action today.
The Indiana Hoosiers open their first NCAA tournament under head Coach Kelvin Sampson tonight when they face Gonzaga in Sacramento.
The Hoosiers were 20-and-10 in Sampson's initial campaign, earning the number-seven seed in the West Region. The Bulldogs are 23-and-10 and seeded tenth.
Gonzaga eliminated the Hoosiers from the tournament last year, beating IU 90-80 in the second round.
The Butler Bulldogs open NCAA tournament play this afternoon as they face the Old Dominion Monarchs in Buffalo.
The Bulldogs are 27-and-6 and are the number-five seed in the Midwest Region while the Monarchs are 24-and-8 and seeded twelfth.
Butler will try to avoid the pitfall of being a five-seed. In 17 of the last 18 NCAA tournaments, at least one twelve seed has upset a five seed. The Bulldogs struggled late in the season, picking up four of their six losses in the final month.
ODU is 24-and-8. The Monarchs had won twelve straight before falling to George Mason in the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic tournament.
