(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - One day after Sam Mitchell re-signed with Toronto, another candidate for the vacant Indiana Pacers’ head coaching job has withdrawn his name from consideration.
The Indianapolis Star reports that former Miami Heat coach Stan Van Gundy turned down an offer to coach the Pacers.
Van Gundy became the favorite to replace Rick Carlisle when Mitchell signed a four-year deal to stay in Toronto.
Carlisle remains with the organization but was relieved of his head coaching duties in April.
The Pacers have already interviewed current team assistants Johnny Davis and Chuck Person as well as LA Lakers assistant Brian Shaw.
The Chicago Tribune reported earlier in the week that Bulls lead assistant Jim Boylan will also interview with Indiana.
