Last updated on Friday, June 8, 2007

(OSSIAN, IN) - Norwell High School pitcher Jarrod Parker was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round of Thursday’s Major League Baseball draft.

Parker was taken with the ninth overall selection. Parker is 10-and-0 with a 0.12 earned run average for the 32-and-0 Knights, who face South Bend St. Joseph's in a semi-state game on Saturday.

Parker has committed to play collegiately at Georgia Tech but now is expected to sign with the Diamondbacks.

Kokomo high school pitcher Pat Underwood is the only Indiana high school player who was selected higher in the MLB draft.

Underwood was taken with the second-overall pick by the Detroit Tigers in the 1976 draft. Underwood spent four seasons in the majors, all with the Tigers.
