(LOUISVILLE, KY) - John Van Benschoten allowed six hits over seven shutout innings as the Indianapolis Indians edged the Louisville Bats 2-1.
Steven Pearce provided the offense with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth. Bret Prinz allowed an RBI single to Ryan Hanigan in the bottom of the ninth but got Paul Janish to pop out with the tying run on third to end the game.
Van Benschoten gets the win to improve to 8-and-4 with Prinz recording his third save. Johnny Cueto took the loss to fall to 2-and-1.
Game two of the four-game series is scheduled for tonight in Louisville.
