(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings will undergo surgery today to repair a torn right achillies tendon.
The five-time WNBA all-star suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Fever's 81-65 loss to the Detroit Shock in game three of the Eastern Conference Finals on Monday night. Catchings had to be removed from the floor in a wheelchair.
Recovery time following the surgery is expected to be between six and nine months.
Catchings missed the final month of the regular season after suffering a partial tear of the plantar fascia in her left foot on July 20th. She returned in time for the start of the playoffs, averaging 20 points and 15 rebounds in Indiana's first-round win over Connecticut.
With Monday night's win, the Shock took the best-of-three series two games to one and open the WNBA finals tonight against the Phoenix Mercury at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
