(PORTLAND, OR) - It appears that Greg Oden’s first NBA season is over before it begins.
The Indianapolis native underwent micro fracture surgery on his right knee Thursday in Portland.
What was originally scheduled to be an exploratory arthroscopic procedure for the number-one pick in last June's NBA draft turned into a full-blown operation from which patients usually require six to twelve months to recover fully. Micro fracture surgery is performed to stimulate growth of cartilage.
Oden, the 2005 Indiana Mister Basketball from Lawrence North High School, felt pain in his knee during a workout last week.
