Pacers Re-Sign Sims To Roster

Last updated on Tuesday, October 30, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indiana Pacers open the regular season Wednesday night when they welcome the Washington Wizards to Conseco Fieldhouse.

The Pacers went 6-and-2 in the preseason as the team looks to rebound from a disappointing 2006-07 campaign. Indiana went 35-and-47 last season, missing the playoffs for the first time in ten years. It was a performance that cost Rick Carlisle his job after four seasons and brought Jim O'Brien to Indiana.

O'Brien has spent the preseason getting the Pacers acclimated to a running style which relies on defense to create fast-break opportunities.

The Pacers enter the regular season with some injury questions. Center Jermaine O'Neal and forward Troy Murphy are listed as doubtful for tomorrow night's opener. O'Neal has had swelling in his left knee since injuring it in practice two weeks ago while Murphy has been hobbled by a strained achilles tendon.

To make up for the lack of big men, the Pacers re-signed Courney Sims on Monday. The former University of Michigan center was released by the Pacers last Thursday.

Sims will join Jeff Foster, Ike Diogu and David Harrison as the only healthy big men on the Indiana roster.

Forward Shawne Williams will miss the Pacers' first three games after being suspended by the team following his arrest last month.
