(SOUTH BEND, IN) - Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis announced Tuesday that Evan Sharpley will be the starting quarterback on Saturday when The Fighting Irish host ninth-ranked USC.
Sharpley replaces true freshman Jimmy Clausen as the starter. Clausen was pulled in Notre Dame's loss to Boston College last Saturday after going 7-for-20 for 60 yards and two interceptions.
Sharpley, who was Brady Quinn's backup last season for the Irish, is the third starting quarterback Notre Dame has employed this season. Demetrius Jones started the opener against Georgia Tech before giving way to Clausen in game two against Penn State. Jones has since left the program.
