(INDIANAPOLIS) - An orientation meeting for former Champ Car World Series teams interested in participating in the IndyCar series in 2008 is scheduled to take place today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
An agreement with the Indy Racing League absorbing the Champ Car World Series was finalized on Friday. IRL President of Competition Brian Barnhart told the Indianapolis Star that he expects representatives from six teams to attend today's meeting.
Barnhart expects the two-car teams from Newman/Haas/Lanigan, PKV, Forsythe/Pettit and Conquest Racing to be represented as well as the one-car teams from Walker Racing and Minardi Team USA.
Spring training for the IndyCar series begins this week at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but the former Champ Car teams are not expected to be ready to participate.
Barnhart has scheduled a pair of tests for the Champ Car teams - one at the Sebring road course in Florida on March 19th and 20th and the other at the Homestead oval on March 24th and 25th.
The IndyCar season opens at Homestead on March 29th.
