(BLOOMINGTON) - Tom Crean has been named the 28th head basketball coach in Indiana University history.
Crean averaged 21 wins a season in nine years at Marquette and led the Golden Eagles to five NCAA tournament appearances including the 2003 Final Four.
Crean expressed his excitement today to join a program with as much tradition and success as Indiana, and says he's eager to add his stamp to IU basketball.
Crean and IU agreed to an eight-year, $18.24-million dollar deal that will pay him an average of $2.3 million dollars per season.
Crean replaces Kelvin Sampson, who resigned before season's end under a cloud of NCAA allegations of recruiting violations.
