(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Indiana University Interim Basketball Coach Dan Dakich has reportedly dismissed starters Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis from the team.
The Indianapolis Star reported the dismissals on its website Monday night.
Both players missed two prearranged meetings last week and were told if they missed the second meeting, they would be kicked off the team. Both players had been suspended during the season for unspecified violations of team rules.
Bassett averaged 11.4 points per game as a sophomore this past season. Ellis averaged 6.8 points in his junior season.
Sampson Replacement Soon?
Dakich replaced Kelvin Sampson as head coach in late February after Sampson resigned under pressure as the program is currently under an NCAA investigation.
Athletic Director Rick Greenspan reportedly wants to name Sampson's successor before the Final Four begins this weekend. Washington State Coach Tony Bennett talked to Greenspan about the opening but has since withdrawn his name from consideration.
Dakich has expressed interest on becoming the permanent head coach. The Hoosiers went 3-and-4 after Sampson left, including a loss to Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
