(ST. PETERSBURG, FL) - 19-year-old Graham Rahal’s IndyCar series debut was a huge success as he won Sunday’s race through the streets of rainy St. Petersburg, Florida.
The son of 1986 Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal did not start last week's season-opener in Homestead after crashing his only car during testing.
The car was well enough for Rahal to overcome contact with Will Power and a late spin on the wet course to beat pole winner Helio Castroneves by more than 3.5 seconds.
Tony Kanaan was third with E.J. Viso and Enrique Bernoldi rounding out the top five. Those drivers who are with teams that were in the IndyCar series last season will head to Motegi, Japan to race there on April 19th.
The former Champ Car World Series teams head to Long Beach for a street race on April 20th.
