(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Despite threatening weather conditions most of the day, they finally got in a substantial day of practice Thursday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Windy conditions kept the speeds down with Team Penske leading the way. Ryan Briscoe topped the speed chart at 223.708 miles per hour with teammate Helio Castroneves second at 223.284. Both Briscoe and Castroneves are already qualified and were out in their backup cars.
Pole-winner Scott Dixon was also above the 223 mile-per-hour mark with Tony Kanaan and Tomas Scheckter rounding out the top five.
Among those who have yet to qualify, rookie Will Power was quickest at 222.657 miles per hour. That was good for sixth place on the speed chart.
John Andretti was seventh and Bruno Junqueira was tenth to pace the non-qualifiers.
Practice is scheduled for today leading in to day three of time trials on Saturday. The remaining 22 spots on the starting grid are scheduled to be filled on Saturday with Sunday reserved for bumping.
