(BLOOMINGTON) - The end of the year will be the end of the line for Rick Greenspan as athletic director at Indiana University.
In a news conference Thursday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Greenspan announced his plans to resign effective December 31st.
The man who hired Kelvin Sampson says he finds it "regrettable that the actions of a few have brought such disappointment to so many."
His decision comes after word that the NCAA is citing IU for an additional infraction, alleging that the university failed to adequately monitor the troubled men's basketball program. The school is being asked for a response to the new charge as soon as possible.
The university was already awaiting a decision on penalties for recruiting violations under Sampson, the former head coach of the men's basketball team.
