(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Turbocharged engines may come back to the Indianapolis 500 in 2011.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosted a roundtable discussion with chassis and engine manufacturers concerning a new IndyCar Series formula for 2011.
Indy Racing League President of Competition Brian Barnhart says that while turbocharged engines are more expensive, they are more adaptable to the varying circuits the IndyCar Series now runs on and they are quieter than the normally aspirated engines currently in use.
The IRL has used normally aspirated engines since 1997.
