(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Indianapolis Colts linebacker Tyjuan Hagler was injured during the team’s offseason conditioning program, according to a pair of published reports.
NFL.com reported Monday that Hagler suffered a torn pectoral muscle lifting weights last week and he is expected to miss two months. The Indianapolis Star reports that a person with knowledge of the incident confirmed that Hagler was injured but the team has declined comment.
Hagler was projected to be the Colts' starter at strong-side linebacker this season. The University of Cincinnati product appeared in twelve games last season, starting seven.
The Colts were already expected to be shorthanded on defense when training camp opens in three weeks. Former Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney is coming back following surgery to repair a lisfranc injury to his left foot. Freeney missed the final seven games of the regular season and the Colts' playoff loss to San Diego.
Reigning defensive player of the year Bob Sanders had offseason surgery on his shoulder.
Both Freeney and Sanders are expected to be placed on the physically unable to perform list when the Colts report to training camp in Terre Haute on July 24th. They should be ready in time for the start of the regular season.
