(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The NASCAR teams and drivers are filtering into Indianapolis for this weekend’s Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.
One of the sidebars in the past couple of weeks has involved a pair of Hoosier drivers. Columbus native Tony Stewart announced that he will leave Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of the season to join Haas / CNC Racing as a co-owner and driver. The team will be renamed Stewart-Haas Racing next year.
Haas / CNC is a two-car team and one rumor has South Bend native Ryan Newman joining Stewart as the second driver. Newman is leaving Penske Racing at the end of the year.
Stewart was the guest on NASCAR's weekly teleconference and says that despite the rumors, he has several drivers in mind for the second seat at Stewart-Haas next season.
The two-time brickyard winner says his main concern with his new team is finding a pair of crew chiefs. Greg Zippadelli, who has been Stewart's crew chief since he entered the Sprint Cup Series in 1999, is staying with Joe Gibbs Racing.
