(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning underwent knee surgery on Monday that will likely force him to miss training camp time and some of the preseason.
The Colts announced Manning had surgery to remove an infected bursa sac in his left knee Monday. Team President Bill Polian called the surgery routine and says the medical staff expects a full recovery in four to six weeks.
Using that timeline, Manning is unlikely to be ready for Colts training camp, which begins July 25 in Terre Haute.
The 10-year veteran has made 160 consecutive regular season starts, starting every game of his career. He has missed just one play due to injury in his career.
The Colts open their regular season just under eight weeks from now on September 7 at home against the Chicago Bears.
Manning's knee becomes the latest injury concern for the Colts, who are also dealing with pro bowlers bob sanders, Marvin Harrison, and Dwight Freeney coming off of injuries from last season.
