(LEBANON, TN) - The Indy Racing League will not return to Nashville Superspeedway in 2009.
Track officials announced that they could not come to an agreement to extend IndyCar Series Racing at the 1.3 mile oval.
The IndyCar Series has raced at Nashville the past eight seasons with Scott Dixon winning a rain-shortened event on July 12th.
Nashville Superspeedway General Manager Cliff Hawks says the IRL's sanctioning fee was too steep for the track. IndyCar Series drivers had been unhappy about the difficulty of passing on the last remaining concrete track on the circuit.
