(SONOMA, CA) - Helio Castroneves picked up his first win of the IndyCar Series season with his victory at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.
For the colorful Brazilian, it was his first win in 30 races and it keeps alive Castroneves' hopes for his first IndyCar Series championship.
Castroneves and Penske Racing teammate Ryan Briscoe started one-two and finished one-two in their backup cars after both primaries were destroyed in a transporter fire on the way to Sonoma. The "Dancing With The Stars" champion led 51 of the 80 laps with Briscoe on the point for 19 more.
Tony Kanaan finished third with Dan Wheldon and Danica Patrick rounding out the top five. Points leader Scott Dixon had his worst race of the season, finishing twelfth. Dixon's lead over Castroneves falls to 43 points.
The IndyCar Series is back in action on another road course next Sunday at the Detroit Indy Grand Prix at the raceway at Belle Isle Park.
