Jeffersonville Crew Heads To Little League World Series

Last updated on Wednesday, August 13, 2008

(JEFFERSONVILLE) - It’s off to the Little League World Series for the Jeffersonville/George Rogers Clark All Stars.

The team left for Williamsport, Pennsylvania Tuesday morning in a convoy of limousines. The limos took the team to Louisville International Airport, where several players embarked on their first ever plane ride.

The team will play their first game Friday night at 8pm on ESPN against a team from Hagerstown, Maryland.

Head Coach Derek Ellis says it's been a whirlwind since returning from the Great Lakes Regional. Ellis says the team got a financial boost from the city of Jeffersonville. The city council presented them with a $5,000 dollar check to defray expenses. Ellis says Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden was able to contribute an additional $3,000 dollars.

Josh Burke is excited and looking forward to the series and the overall experience. Both he, and his teammate Dalton Duley want to have fun, but they also want to win the title. Duley anticipates making new friends, and meeting international teams. Each U.S. team is paired with an international squad upon their arrival in Williamsport.

Drew Ellis will be the starting pitcher in game one, and says while he enjoys the experience, he's trying to focus on the title too.
