(BLOOMINGTON) - The Indiana Hoosiers dropped their Big Ten opener to the Michigan State Spartans 42-29.
Michigan State running back Javon Ringer narrowly missed his third straight 200-yard game after rushing for 198 yards and a touchdown.
Marcus Thigpen had a strong day for the Hoosiers, rushing nine times for 113 yards and two touchdowns, and caught two passes for 94 yards and another score.
With the victory the Spartans hold on to the 'Old Brass Spittoon.'
The two teams have competed for the 'spittoon' since 1950.
With the loss, the Hoosiers have now dropped two straight, and fall to 2-2 overall.
