(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Motorcycles will race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time since 1909 as the Red Bull Indianapolis GP gets underway today.
Practice is scheduled for today and Saturday with three races scheduled on Sunday before the Moto GP finale.
Five-time Moto GP champion Valentino Rossi can become the all-time winningest rider in the series and can clinch a sixth championship with a win on Sunday.
Rain is scheduled throughout the weekend. Moto GP runs in the rain unless the weather is severe enough to compromise rider safety.
To get people ready for the Moto GP, Red Bull brought some different kind of motorcycle riders to Indianapolis. The energy drink company set up the Red Bull Street Party in Broad Ripple. Freestyle motorcross riders performed tricks in the street in front of adoring fans.
Rider and X-Games medalist Tommy Clowers says the guys have fun getting the crowds excited for one of the best motorcycle races in the world. Clowers and three other riders jumped their motocross bikes 25 feet in the air and hurtle about 75 feet from ramp to ramp in front of the fans. Clowers says its dangerous, but extremely thrilling.
