(UNDATED) - In racing, qualifying for the Nikon Indy 300 will take place today at Surfer’s Paradise Australia.
The race will be held Sunday afternoon in Australia which is Saturday night in the United States.
It is the final race of the 2008 Indycar Series season, although it does not count toward the points championship which was awarded to Scott Dixon following last month's race at Chicagoland Speedway.
The Surfers Paradise race is not currently on the 2009 Indycar Series schedule.
Talks between event promoters and the Indy Racing League are ongoing with an announcement regarding future Indycar Series races on the gold coast expected by the middle of next month.
The Australia race was a fixture on the cart and champ car world series schedules.
Champ car was absorbed into the Indy Racing League last February.
