(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Veteran swingman Eddie Jones will not be joining the Pacers but has restructured his deal to allow the Pacers to sign another player at the veteran minimum salary.
Jones was acquired along with a pair of second-round draft picks from Dallas last Friday in exchange for forward Shawne Williams.
In a statement released by the Pacers, the 36-year-old made it clear to the team that he preferred not to play this season.
Indiana officials worked with Jones' agent to lower his salary-cap figure for the one year remaining on his contract.
The deal gives the Pacers room to sign another veteran player without exceeding the NBA's luxury tax threshold.
