(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indiana Pacers will not bring in another point guard in the aftermath of Travis Diener’s foot injury.
Head Coach Jim O'Brien said Wednesday that with Diener likely out of action for the entire preseason, he was considering adding another point guard to the mix to lighten the load on TJ Ford and Jarrett Jack at practice.
Instead, veteran Marquis Daniels will fill in at the point as needed. O'Brien says using Daniels at point guard is a temporary move.
Diener, Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy sat out Thursday morning's practice. Dunleavy has tendonitis in his knee and also missed Wednesday's workouts. Murphy sat with a sore achilles in a move O'Brien termed as "precautionary.
After two-a-day practices on Tuesday and Wednesday, O'Brien gave the team Thursday night off.
The Pacers open their exhibition schedule on Wednesday night when they host the New Orleans Hornets at the Pepsi Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
