(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indiana Pacers are down a point guard as Travis Diener is out indefinitely with a sore left foot.
Diener was held out of Wednesday's practice after being limited by pain following Tuesday's workout. Diener had offseason surgery to remove bone spurs from the foot and Head Coach Jim O'Brien says the former Marquette star could miss four to six weeks.
Diener's absence leaves TJ Ford and Jarrett Jack as the lone point guards and O'Brien says the team may look to bring in another point guard to help out at practice.
They do have another point guard on the roster, but bringing Jamaal Tinsley back is not an option. The Pacers have been trying to trade the seven-year veteran since team President Larry Bird announced that Tinsley would not be coming back before last June's NBA Draft.
Tinsley still has three years remaining on his contract and Bird says that the team will not buy out the remainder, leaving Tinsley in limbo until a deal is made.
Training camp continues today at Conseco Fieldhouse as the blue-and-gold get ready for the start of the preseason. The first exhibition game is on Wednesday night at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis against the New Orleans Hornets.
