(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts could have another option at cornerback this week as Dante Hughes returned to practice on Wednesday.
Hughes missed last week's win over New England with an ankle injury and is expected to play this Sunday at Pittsburgh. Keiwan Ratliff, who has been cut twice by the Colts before being re-signed last week, started at corner against the Patriots.
Kelvin Hayden is expected to miss another game this Sunday with a hamstring injury. Linebacker Freddy Keiaho also returned to practice yesterday after missing the New England game with a knee injury.
Colts Roster Moves
The Colts made a roster move on Wednesday, signing defensive tackle Antonio Johnson off of Tennessee's practice squad. Johnson is a 6-3, 310-pounder out of Mississippi State who was a fifth-round draft choice of the Titans in 2005. He missed all of the 2007 season with a knee injury.
To make room for Johnson, the Colts placed running back Clifton Dawson on injured reserve. Dawson missed last Sunday's game with New England with a concussion.
Vinatieri Claims AFC Special Teams Honors
Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri is the AFC special teams player of the week. The 13-year NFL veteran booted a 52-yard field goal with just over eight minutes remaining to give the horseshoes an 18-15 win over his former team, the Patriots. It was the first field goal of 50 yards or longer Vinatieri had kicked for the Colts and his first successful field goal of 50 or more yards since 2002.
All Eyes On Roethlisberger
Ben Roethlisberger missed Wednesday's practice for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but remains optimistic that he will play Sunday against the Colts. Roethlisberger reinjured his throwing shoulder in Pittsburgh's Monday night win over Washington. An MRI on Tuesday revealed no structural damage to the shoulder.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says the team will evaluate Roethlisberger before today's practice and says it is too early to say if the former Miami of Ohio star will play this weekend. If he sits, former Jacksonville Jaguar Byron Leftwich will get the start at quarterback.
Colts Coach Tony Dungy says he expects Roethlisberger to play on Sunday.
