Colts Defensive Stars Claim AFC Honors

Last updated on Friday, December 5, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts are wrapping up their practice week today as they get ready for Sunday afternoon’s game with the Cincinnati Bengals.

None of the players who sat out Wednesday's practice with injuries participated on Thursday. That list includes linebacker Gary Brackett and defensive tackle Keyunta Dawson, who are expected to miss Sunday's game.

Center Jeff Saturday, linebacker Tyjuan Hagler and safety Bob Sanders also sat out Thursday's practice and could miss this weekend's game. Safety Antoine Bethea, who missed Wednesday's practice for rest, was also given a rest day on Thursday.

The Colts are 8-and-4 and have won five straight. The Bengals are 1-10-and-1.

Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney is the AFC defensive player of the month for November. Freeney was a key factor in the Colts' 5-and-0 month, leading the defense with five sacks and two forced fumbles. It was Freeney's forced fumble last Sunday in Cleveland that led to Robert Mathis' 37-yard touchdown as the Colts edged the Browns 10-6.

Mathis was named AFC defensive player of the week on Wednesday. It is the third time Freeney has been named defensive player of the month, claiming the honor for December of 2004 and September of 2005.
