(NORMAL, IL) - Purdue Defensive Coordinator Brock Spack is the new head coach at Illinois State.
Spack spent 16 years as an assistant coach with the Boilermakers, the last twelve as defensive coordinator. He will be introduced at Illinois State on Wednesday.
Spack replaces Denver Johnson as head coach of the Redbirds. Johnson resigned at the end of Illinois State's 3-8 campaign.
Spack reportedly wanted to succeed Joe Tiller as head coach of the Boilermakers and was disappointed when he was bypassed in favor of Danny Hope.
The Illinois State job will be Spack's first as a head coach on any level.
