(SOUTH BEND, IN) - A South Bend television station is reporting that Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis will be retained for the 2009 season.
WNDU television and the Irish Eyes website cite a source close to the Notre Dame football program who says that Weis was told to continue his west-coast recruiting trip and to tell his coaching staff to maintain the status quo.
Weis is 28-and-21 over four seasons in South Bend, but many of those wins came over his first two seasons. The Irish went 3-and-9 last season and are 6-and-6 this year with a possible bowl game looming.
Notre Dame officials have declined to comment on the report.
