High School Standout Te'o Signs With Fighting Irish

Last updated on Thursday, February 5, 2009

(SOUTH BEND) - Wednesday was national signing day for high school football players, and Notre Dame may have received the biggest last minute gift.

Already stock piling a recruiting class ranked in the nation's top 25, the Irish received a last minute commitment from coveted Hawaiian Manti Te'o. The 6-2, 225 pound linebacker is widely considered the best defensive player in the nation, and was the top non-committed player in the country.

Manti, who recorded 90 tackles and 5 sacks this past season, prepped at Hawaii's Punahou High School. That's the same high school that produced golfer Michelle Wie and President Barack Obama.
