(MESA, AZ) - Chicago Cubs Manager Lou Piniella says Kevin Gregg will be the team’s closer to start the season.
Gregg, who was acquired from the Florida Marlins in a trade during the off-season, beat out Carlos Marmol for the closer's job.
Marmol will return to his role as the cubs' chief setup man, a role he served for closer Kerry Wood last season.
The Cubs chose not to renew Wood's contract following last season. Wood later signed with the Cleveland Indians.
