(LAKE FOREST, IL) - The Chicago Bears have acquired pro bowl quarterback Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos in exchange for quarterback Kyle Orton and three draft picks.
Cutler, a native of Santa Claus, Indiana, asked to be traded after finding out that new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels had tried to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots.
Cassel was subsequently shipped to Kansas City.
Orton, who played collegiately at Purdue, started 15 games for the Bears last season, completing almost 59% of his passes.
The Bears also send a first and third-round pick in this month's NFL draft to Denver along with a first-round pick in 2010.
