(FORT WORTH, TX) - Jeff Gordon picked up his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win since October, 2007 as he held off teammate Jimmie Johnson to win Sunday’s Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Gordon bolted out to a huge lead on a restart on lap 309 with Johnson reeling him in over the final 25 laps, falling about four-tenths of a second short at the finish line.
Greg Biffle finished third with Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth rounding out the top five. Gordon also led a race-high 105 laps to extend his points lead to 162.
Johnson moved up two spots and is now second to Gordon in points with Kurt Busch third, Denny Hamlin fourth and Stewart fifth.
NASCAR is off next weekend for Easter and will return to action in two weeks at Phoenix International Raceway.
