(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University has dismissed Kellen Lewis from the football team for violating team rules.
In a statement released by the university, head coach Bill Lynch says he is disappointed to make this decision but that he had to do what ultimately is in the best interests of the program.
IU Director of Athletics Fred Glass supported Lynch's decision, saying that no individual student-athlete is above the expectations of Indiana University. Lewis would have been a fifth-year senior this fall.
He spent three years at quarterback but was being moved to wide receiver for the upcoming season.
He quarterbacked the Hoosiers to an Insight Bowl bid following the 2007 season, Indiana's first bowl appearance in 14 seasons.
